Longleat House & Safari Park
The surrounding areas of Wiltshire are full of fun and interesting attractions which would be ideal for a great day out. Here are a couple of them:
Stonehenge
Stonehenge needs no introduction, it's known the worldover as an ancient monument of huge significance. It is located on route to Salisbury and would be a worth while detour.
Avebury Stone Circle
Avebury's enchanting stone circles lie in the epicentre of Wiltshire's mystical landscape, just like Stonehenge Avebury is a world heritage site with great historical value. In fact Avebury has alot more to offer than what Stonehenge does because not only is there the stone circle, but it's also home to the most haunted place in Britain which is in fact the pub! About a mile down the road from Avebury is europes largest man-made prehistoric mound, Silbury Hill, and Britains largest burial chamber, the West Kennet Long Barrow. In the summer months crop circles also adorn the surrounding fields of this fascinating area.
Substantially completed by 1580 and now home to the Marquess of Bath, Longleat House is set within 900 acres of magnificent `Capability' Brown landscpaed parkland with a further 8000 acres of woodland, lakes and farmland. In the late 13th century a priory belonging to the Black Canons of the Order of St Augustine occupied the site where Longleat House now stands.
The Drive Through Safari Park offers the chance to enjoy incredibly close encounters with some of the world's most amazing animals. The animals vary from lions to rhino's and of course the meddling monkeys that like nothing more than a good windscreen wiper to play with! Longleat offers a great day out with plenty to do including the worlds biggest maze!
Bowood House & Gardens
Bowood is found approximately 6 miles from Belle Vue Farm, and is yet another great place to visit. Bowood is surrounded by beautiful woodlands and countryside. At Bowood they offer a golf course, a huge adventure play area for children which include massive climbing frames, pirate ships, death slides and all sorts of fun stuff! The house and gardens is also great to explore with plenty to learn and see.
Lacock
Lacock is a small village filled with incredible beauty. It's also located a couple of miles from Belle Vue Farm. Lacock is well known for it's abbey and historical features. The Lacock abbey is where some of the Harry Potter movies are filmed, inside the abbey you will notice that it's similar to that of Hogwarts. Not only is Harry Potter filmed in Lacock but it is also home to the more recent Larkrise to Candleford.
