Winter 09-2010
Winter is here and that means the Featherdown season comes to an end for this year. Thankyou to everyone who visited us and for the kind words and comments.
Winter always brings about a fresh challenge on the farm, the cows come in from grazing the fields and are now housed for winter. The donkeys are far from happy at being housed and have tried all escape tactics possible, despite the fact they have a hay barn full of hay to tuck into and receive endless amounts of attention.
The small flock of Wiltshire Horn sheep are currently about to be housed ready for lambing.
This time of year the in-calf heifers go back to Freeths farm at Swindon ready to calve for the first time and produce milk for OMSCO (organic milk suppliers co-operative).
The aberdeen angus beef stores have been sold to an organic farmer in Oxford this year.
January brought about the big freeze and a lot of snow! This created plenty of new challenges and unfortunately a few casualty's, Mr Fox had ran out of grub and decided that our chickens would be a nice alternative. Farmer Joe, Chris & George are fuming because our fantastic eggs have been wiped off the breakfast menu. The gaggle of geese however aren't taking any nonsense from Mr Fox and are hissing louder than ever.
Izzy is looking forward to attending a homeopathy course for farmers on Prince Charles Farm at Tetbury.
Mill Farm House is about to complete it's first year of holiday accomodation, thankyou to everyone that's stayed and we appreciate all the lovely feedback.

Spring 2010
With a very cold an white winter behind us we now move forward to spring. Spring brings about fresh new challenges on the farm and it also brings back our happy campers! Yes Featherdown is back for another season. A few changes have been introduced to the tents this time around such as a side door fire exit and a retirement for the oil lanterns due to fire regulations, they are to be replaced by 5 piece candelabras. The season started off extremely wet with alot of heavy downpours making the fields very wet an muddy. Despite all this wet weather it did not dampen the spirits of our happy campers especially the younger aged ones that liked jumping in the mud. Thankfully a few days into the new season and the weather took a change and it has been gloriously sunny and warm all month, which in turn put more smiles on our guests faces.
Mill Farm House has now completed it's first full year as a holiday let. Bookings for this year are going very well so far, and the feedback we have been receiving has been very warming.
Spring has also brought about some other new friendly arrivals to the farm, our Wiltshire Horn sheep have lambed, giving us about 17 new lambs. Also two of our MRI suckler cows have calved giving us two aberdeen angus calves.
The cows have now been let out of the winter housing and are now happily grazing the land.
We are also pleased to announce that 50 new chicken have arrived on the farm, they are fresh layers and are producing some mighty fine eggs, this news pleases Farmer Joe, Chris & George immensely as fried egg is back on the menu for breakfast!
The donkeys made a mad bolt for the field when we let them out to graze earlier this month, they were running around for hours. With the campers back we have found that donkey rides are in demand and with Rocky getting beefier an stronger we will soon be looking to him to help share the rides with fellow donkey Moto.
Laser Shooting has also been in huge demand so far this season, it has kept Chris very busy, and with the indoor arena open again we can cater for all weathers.
 2011

2011 has been another big year for the farm. The farm has seen more changes with the arrival of a new calf rearing enterprise which is planned to rear up to 800 animals per year.
Another season of superb guests down on the campsite and the Mill Farm House and our last season as a Featherdown Farm.
We now look forward to a new season of luxury camping in new style tents with plenty more to offer. A truly exciting time!
